Please tell us about the background to stacs.scot
Following the publication of the Scottish Tech Ecosystem Review by Professor Mark Logan, STACS was created and funded by the Scottish Government in direct response to the education recommendations to improve Computing Science provision in Scotland.
This initiative recognises the importance of Computing Science as a subject in schools and the integral part it plays in Scotland’s ambition for a Digital Nation. Computing Science in education has a key role in helping to engage, nurture, and inspire the next generation of talent, and that journey starts in the classroom.

The work we do at stacs.scot
Scottish Teachers Advancing Computing Science is a teacher-led organisation aimed at supporting teachers delivering Computing Science, championing the work being done by Computing Science teachers, and advocating for them. Most importantly, it is about working with the Computing Science teacher community in Scotland.

Our vision for the future of stacs.scot
Our vision for stacs.scot is to see equity of access for all pupils in accessing Computing Science at school level, to see Computing Science departments and the subject thrive in all schools in Scotland, to see uptake increase, the gender gap closed, and more Computing Science teachers. Our ultimate goal is for this to carry through to the Scottish tech talent pipeline, ensuring a sustainable tech talent pipeline, and we hope stacs.scot will play a part in that.

Why we chose a .scot domain
As a Scottish teacher-led organisation, we didn’t really consider anything else. STACS is about working with and connecting teachers delivering Computing Science on a national level to share knowledge, wealth, and expertise among the community of teachers. Dot Scot signifies its national reach, working with teachers across the country. The .scot domain was a perfect fit, and we are extremely proud to have stacs.scot.
